Special consultation for shoulder joint / elbow joint

The shoulder joint is a ball-and-socket joint consisting of the humeral head and the small bony socket, which is part of the shoulder blade. Of all the joints in the human body, it has the greatest range of motion, which also makes it particularly susceptible to injury and wear and tear.

The elbow joint is a compound hinge joint. Functionally, it consists of three partial joints with a common joint capsule, in which the upper arm bone (humerus) and the two forearm bones radius and ulna each connect to one of the other two bones. The forearm can be flexed and extended in the elbow joint in relation to the upper arm. The joint is also functionally involved in the turning movements of the hand. These are made possible, among other things, by a complex rotational movement of the radius. The joint gains its stability from the bony guidance, the tight capsule-ligamentous apparatus and the muscles that span the joint. Nevertheless, the elbow is the joint that dislocates second most frequently.

In our practice, we treat the entire spectrum of acquired diseases, injuries and the consequences of injuries to the shoulder and elbow joint. Concentrating on one extremity has many advantages: this results in a high degree of specialization and the clarification of problems, treatment and follow-up care of our patients takes place at the highest professional level.

Many shoulder and elbow operations can be performed on an outpatient basis or with an overnight stay in the outpatient surgery center “Anästhesisten im Gewebepark”. This procedure is particularly suitable for uncomplicated operations.
More complex shoulder and elbow operations on patients with pre-existing conditions can be performed on an inpatient basis. Following such an operation, the patient must stay in hospital for two to three days.
